Further Reading on Plagiarism and Academic Integrity

"Academic integrity is a fundamental element in the ethics of teaching and learning. The values at the foundation of education shape the concept of academic integrity and place its possessor in good position within a community of thinkers to learn what is known and seek the truth about what is unknown. The educated person has succeeded at learning. To do so in ways that benefit one’s institution, one’s community, and oneself is to practice academic integrity. Defeating misconduct alone is not sufficient to advance academic integrity. In addition to designing policies and disciplinary systems, the educational institution has a responsibility to cultivate the integrity of its academic community. This responsibility is honored when learning is valued and supported at all levels of the institution. Information technology introduces new challenges to, and opportunities toward, the advancement of academic integrity."
