About the Depository Program

Booth Library is a member of the Federal Depository Library Program, receiving United States government publications directly from the Government Printing Office in Washington D.C.  Booth Library is also a member of the Illinois Documents Depository Program, receiving Illinois State government publications from the State Library in Springfield, Illinois.

Federal and State documents are listed in the EIU Library Catalog and are generally housed in the Government Documents Section of Booth Library located on 2000 Level North.  Federal Documents are shelved using the Superintendent of Documents Classification System (SuDoc).  Illinois State Documents are shelved using the Dewey Decimal System.

In recent years, Illinois and the Government Printing Office have been transitioning from publishing print documents to producing electronic documents.  Electronic documents are listed in the EIU Library Catalog with their URL, making the titles available with just one click.

The Catalog of Government Publications (CGP) is a comprehensive finding tool for federal publications.  The descriptive records for historical and current publications include direct links to those available online.

Search the EIU Library Catalog to locate hearings.  Adding the words hearing and gpo help focus retrievals on congressional hearings issued by the Government Printing Office (GPO).  The hearings may be available as printed documents located on the 2000 Level North of Booth Library or they may be available online, just click the link to connect to the online document.

One of the best resources for identifying and accessing government statistical data is the Statistical Abstract of the United States.  You will find a print volumes of the Statistical Abstract of the United States in the Reference Room, call number HA202, 3000 Level, Booth Library. It is also available online.
