Finding Speeches in Books

Search in the EIU Online Catalog:
Perform searches in the library catalog for names or other salient keywords (such as "war", "congress", "humorous") with the term "speech" or "oratory" to find additional books and online resources.


To find the text of speeches, try these subject headings:
• Speeches, addresses
• Oratory
 
To find general information on speeches, try these subject headings:
• Rhetoric
• Public speaking
 
To find a speech by a famous speaker, enter the person's name and the word speeches:
• Abraham Lincoln speeches
• Frederick Douglass speeches
 
To find books about a speaker’s style, use the heading “oratory” :
• Abraham Lincoln oratory
