Finding Fairy Tales in the Ballenger Teachers Center
Many fairy tale anthologies are in BTC Juvenile 398. Adaptations of single stories are mostly in BTC 398.2.
There are also additional picture book adaptations in these call number areas:
- Picture books in BTC Juvenile 800,
- Graphic Novel adaptations in BTC Juvenile 741,
- Novels in BTC Juvenile 813 and BTC Juvenile 823.
To search for all fairy tale adaptations, go to the Ballenger Teachers Center website and type fairy tale AND adaptations in the search box. You can also type in the name of a specific fairy tale such as three bears AND adaptations. This will find most adaptations, including those not in 398 and 398.2. Be sure to look past the first page of results. For instance, the adaptation of Cinderella Cinder Edna is the 42nd result and is in the 800s so would not be found simply by browsing the Cinderella tales in the 398.2s.
Novels can be trickier to find since not all have the adaptations subject or genre assigned to them. You know something is a novelization if it has an 813 or 823 call number. Below are two screen shots of example novelizations. The call number appears in parentheses.
Finding Common Tale Adaptations
Most adaptations of fairy tales are in the 398.2s. The most popular tales for which we have multiple adaptations have all been assigned the same call number so you can easily browse them on the shelf.
