Describes how to locate a Master's Thesis written by a graduate of EIU.

Master’s theses written at Eastern Illinois University have been digitized and are available online to view, download or print.  There are also paper copies shelved on the 2000 Level (2nd floor) of Booth Library in the call number range LB 1861 .C57x. In 2020 only electronic theses will be available.

The best way to find a thesis is to search the EIU Online Catalog.  See Searching by Department below.
This link should execute a search for theses written for the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Foundations.

Online copies of Eastern theses are stored in The Keep, EIU's institutional repository.  Separate departmental listings are available. Click the links for College, Department, or Office > [Department] > Masters Theses  Here is a link to Family and Consumer Sciences theses. After 2018, the areas of study relevant to the Family and Consumer Sciences were subsumed in different departments like Nutrition & Dietetics, Human Services & Community Leadership, Hospitality, and Fashion Merchandising & Design.

Searching by Department

 
First, click on the Books & Movies tab.  You will find a link the Books & Movies tab on the Booth Library home page.

If you're searching for a thesis from a specific department, include words from the department name as part of your search.  Leave out words such as:  a, an, and, the and of.
 
For example, to find a thesis written for the Dept. of Family and Consumer Sciences, enter: eastern illinois family consumer sciences thesis as a keyword search.


To find a thesis written for the History Department, enter:   eastern illinois history thesis

Narrowing your search

You may Narrow Your Search to a specific subject by selecting a subject from the Subject list on the right side of the screen.

Or you may add a subject to your search by including it as a keyword -- but it may be difficult to find a thesis on a very narrow topic.



Look for the Sort By box (top right) to bring the newest papers to the top.  Choose a title that looks interesting, and click on the title link to see the detailed record for the thesis.

Locating a thesis

To locate a thesis, first find the Call Number.  Print copies of Eastern theses are shelved on the 2000 Level (2nd floor) of Booth Library in the call number range LB 1861 .C57x.  They are arranged by department, then the year the thesis was written, and then alphabetically by author.  There is also a copy of each thesis in Special Collections.  Special Collections copies can't be checked out, but they may be examined in the University Archives area, Room 1700, Booth Library.
 
In addition, when you're looking up a thesis, you may see a link that looks like this:

When you click on "view full text" you'll retrieve the full thesis online.  You may print it or download it. As of JHanuary 1, 2020, EIU Master's Theses are only available electronically.
